FRAMING DON RIVER

Project Category

Acupunctural Architectural Project

Date

2024

“Framing Don River is a proposal using
acupunctural architectures to enhance the Don Valley system in Toronto to improve access, curate experience, and framing the aesthetic of nature.

Four bridges are proposed to be built to enhance trail circulation and accessibility, while also framing the beautiful natural views of the Don River. Each bridge is uniquely designed to provide a distinct experience, connecting people to the river in various ways.

Two mini pavilion groups will form in two locations along the trail, in purpose to provide space for resting and increase the chance to observe nature in a calmful way.”

PISCES is conceptually built to observe and listen to the flow of water. The angles of PISCES allow raindrops to slowly slide over each other and eventually drop into the river through the central gap, respecting the idea of the natural water cycle.

The snake, an amphibious creature, effortlessly glides between the river and the ground. Inspired by this, the SNAKE CAVE concept allows humans to traverse the river seamlessly, adopting multiple angles akin to a snake, thereby observing numerous framed Don river views along the way.

The NESTS offers a sense of security by enveloping passengers in a natural form. This bridge allows you to stay calm and relaxed while observing nature within the nests, each of which is strategically positioned to frame specific views.
